Hiking

Discover the natural paradise of the Harz on numerous hiking and walking trails around the Wurmberg. Well-signposted hiking trails lead from the summit and the middle station to rushing mountain streams, primeval forests, magnificent vantage points and cosy places to stop for refreshments, including in the Harz National Park.

At the foot of the Wurmberg runs the Harzer-Hexenstieg, a quality trail of the German Hiking Association, which leads from Osterode to Thale right across the Harz Mountains. A ride on the Wurmberg cable car can be perfectly integrated into a route hike along the Hexenstieg.

The Harzer Grenzweg (Harz Border Trail) runs directly below the Wurmberg peak and follows the course of the former inner-German border. Today the former border is a valuable biotope network between Lower Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt, the so-called "Green Belt".

Popular attractions for hikers on the Wurmberg are the Große and Kleine Wurmbergklippe, the Hexentreppe, the Brockenwegschanzen, the Bärenbrücke on the Warmen Bode and the Wurmbergsteinbruch quarry. The walking time from the summit to the valley station is about 1 to 1.5 hours, depending on the trail.
